The Hardware:
A Self-Powered
Multi-Sensor Device

The PT1 is a hydro-powered monitoring unit. The device measures flow and pressure at high accuracy levels everywhere in the network without the need of external power supply. It delivers data to manage smart water networks, to reduce water leakage and to prevent pipe bursts. With a smart and innovative energy management the integrated power unit charges the internal battery switches into low pressure drop mode at runaway speeds.

The Solution:
A Sensor Network For Real-Time Leakage Monitoring

By measuring the flow and pressure at dedicated points in the water network and comparing it with the hydraulic model, a digital twin can measure the leakage rate and pre-locate leaks. This will significantly reducing leakage run times and thus saving money, energy and reducing CO2 emissions.

Zoning:

Water utilities separate their big networks into smaller discrete metering areas (DMA). To separate these areas, valves must be closed. This is causing a reduction of hydraulic efficiency.

These DMAs allow water utilities to do a balance of non-revenue water (NRW)and get a value for NRW in each DMA.

DMA Prioritization:

However, the location of leaks is still not known. Only the priority of DMA is determined. But a DMA is still sometimes a wide area of a up to 10km of pipelines or 5000 service connections.

PT1 sensor network:

PT1 sensors are deployed at dedicated points in the network. The more sensors you have the higher the accuracy of status will be.
All DMA valves could be opened and hydraulic efficiency will improve!

Real time status of network:

PT1 sensors measure water velocity, minimum night flows, pressure transients as well as temperature and deliver real time status of network.
